ArcGIS Feature Server

Connect to an ArcGIS Feature Server or Map Server so you can browse layers, query features, and use the same connection for maps.

Goal

Create a working ArcGIS Feature Server connection in Connection Manager and use it as a report Data Source.

Prerequisites

  • A FeatureServer or MapServer URL (for example https://services.arcgis.com/.../FeatureServer)
  • Username and password when the service is not public
  • Network access from your workstation

Steps

  1. Open Data → Connection Manager….
  2. Add a connection and choose ArcGIS Feature Server.
  3. Enter the ArcGIS FeatureServer / MapServer URL.
  4. Open Authentication and enter a username and password only if the service requires them.
  5. Click Browse Layers.
  6. Select a layer that supports query.
  7. Click Test, then save the connection.
  8. On the Data tab, select the connection. Browse layers → columns.
  9. Open Query Builder, choose columns and filters, then Apply.
  10. Preview rows, place fields on the report, then Preview.

Notes

Note

This is a live ArcGIS REST connection. Features are queried when you preview or fill the report. They are not imported into a local database.

Note

Layers that do not support query cannot be selected as the report dataset.

Note

Passwords are stored in the operating system credential store, not in the report.

Tip

The same connection can drive an ArcGIS Feature Server map.

Result

The connection appears in Connection Manager and can be selected for queries and for ArcGIS map frames.
