PostgreSQL

Connect to PostgreSQL so you can browse schemas, build queries, and (where supported) render spatial maps.

Goal

Create a working PostgreSQL connection in Connection Manager.

Prerequisites

  • Host name, port, database name, and credentials
  • Firewall access from your workstation

Steps

  1. Open Data → Connection Manager….
  2. Add a connection and choose PostgreSQL.
  3. Enter connection details (host, port, database/service, user, password, and provider-specific options).
  4. Click Test (or equivalent) to verify connectivity.
  5. Save the connection.
  6. On the Data tab, select the connection and open Query Builder to start a query.

Notes

Note

In Connection Manager the provider is labeled PostgreSQL. PostGIS-enabled databases use the same provider.

Tip

After connecting, use the Database Browser to inspect schemas and tables before building a query.

Result

The connection appears in Connection Manager and can be selected for queries and compatible map sources.
